So, I’m poking around the shelves, checking to see how everyone’s doing, and I notice a bit of color where I didn’t expect it to be. What’s that? I move a couple of leaves on Hoya davidcummingii and it’s a nice little umbrel of blossoms. I hadn’t even noticed the peduncle.
I found the H davidcummingii in April on a trip to Logee’s, and I got it because I had heard that they bloom early. The leaves are nothing fancy, but early blooms are fine by me. I just didn’t realize that “early” meant three months. That’s some kind of record for here.
The original leaves were rather pale, and I didn’t have many expectations. But soon there was new growth, and the leaves came in a much healthier green, some even have darker margins. I was so pleased about the new growth I wasn’t even on peduncle patrol. But I am now. I can’t really identify the scent, buttery maybe, but I’ll keep sniffing.
He’s in pon-ish and self-watering on the grow shelves and I’m just going to leave well enough alone. And keep checking for more peduncles and blooms.
