I’ve had my Hoya wayetii for at least a couple of years. I like it and it’s grown well for me. He seems happy in his bark-sphag-net pot setup, and if I give him the right amount of light the leaves get a nice green color, and the edges get a deep purple.
A few weeks ago, I took a vacation, and though I had a friend tending to my plants, I still expected carnage when I returned. Happily, there was none. And as I checked through the shelves, I noticed a peduncle that hadn’t been there before. “Who do you belong to?” I asked as I traced the vine back.
It belonged to H wayetii, which was very cool since he’d never bloomed for me before. I’ve been checking daily – yes, I’m like that – and watching as the buds started opening. This morning they were all open. So pretty. I haven’t noticed a scent yet – I’ve heard its butterscotch – but I’ll be checking throughout the next couple of days.
I’ve come to really enjoy hoya blooms. For a long time hoyas didn’t bloom in my care, but with some adaptations and experience, they now do. Which is just another reason to love ‘em.
I’ll keep you posted.
