Hoya GPS 7240

What’s not to love about a hoya with fuzzy little leaves? Add to that an oval shape, and the result makes me think of fuzzy grapes. This fellow is Hoya GPS7240, and he went on my wish list the first time I saw him. But it became a bit of a hunt.

It seemed that many people had the same reaction as did I, people with much deeper pockets. So the price went way up, and I waited. I’ve never been one of the cool kids, so I don’t feel driven to be on the cutting edge of trends; even when it comes to plants. Sure I wanted one, but I didn’t have to have it now. Which was then. But I do have it now. Which is now.

We’re doing the bark, sphag, and net pot thing, for now. But that could change. He looks healthy, he’s growing, so I’m reluctant to tamper with what works. He does like a little bit more water, which is why the current setup may be working. I’m not sure if that purplish leaf color is simply a new leaf thing or if it’s a sun stress thing. I’m going to see how that plays out.

Right now his vine is very horizontal, but once those leaves start coming in I’m sure that will change and I’ll have to find him a new place to hang out. But for now, all is good.

I’ll keep you posted.
