What To Do? Hoya Haul March 2023

Hoya Haul

This winter’s been rather mild here in southern New England. At my house there hasn’t been snow you could measure until the other day, and there have been weeks when the temperatures have stayed above freezing. So what do you do when it’s winter and the weather’s unseasonably mild? You order plants.

And when a couple of long time wish list plants present themselves, H. kenejiana (inner variegation) and H. lacunosa ‘Poonsack’, you jump on them. I’ve been looking for both for a long time. Though it was freaky cold when I bought them, the seller was kind enough to hold them for a week. So now they’re here.

Since I’d figured out what my H. lanceolata bella liked, I wanted to give the variegated ones a try. Found them at a good price. Same with the H. krohniana ‘Black’; I have the one known as ‘Eskimo’ so why not go in the opposite direction? The H. ranauensis was just because sometimes I get a hankering for another big leafed hoya.

Normally I wouldn’t think of ordering plants at this time of year, but the weather this winter hasn’t been normal. So will I take advantage of the mildness? Absolutely.

I’ll keep you posted.
