What is it that flips that switch in our brain? What is it that draws us to one plant and pushes us away from another? Sometimes I try to make sense of it, figure out the why of it. But that kind of pondering seems best suited to the middle of a second cocktail.
But you know when it happens; when you don’t even put up the pretense of internal dialog. The switch flips and you can almost hear the click. You don’t even need to put it on the wish list. You’re not going to forget it. And so it was with Hoya sp GPS 7240. Click.
I’m not even sure what it is about this Hoya that did it. Maybe it’s the shape of the leaves, the size of the leaves, the little bit of splash, the combination, I don’t know. There are lots of fancier and trendier Hoyas out there that don’t cause the reaction that this one did.
I’ve been collecting long enough that I don’t need to own every new plant I see. Some I only appreciate from afar, and plenty I don’t appreciate at all. But when that switch flips… Click.
I’ll keep you posted.
