Sometimes you see a plant and you just think “Oh, I need that.” It’s not rational, and it’s really not necessary. But you suddenly realize that your collection is somehow missing it and would be more complete with it. Tougher when there’s two.
I saw these two cuttings in the E shop of @plantbylynn. I went back and forth in my head about which one to get, but in the end couldn’t decide between the Hoya lacunosa (variegated) and the Hoya sp aff serpens (Xiaojie 001). I hate dilemmas like that, so I ordered both. As is usual with this shop, they were healthy, well packed, and shipped right away.
Tiny, so tiny. I put a dime (1.9cm) in some pics just for a frame of reference. I decided to go the coco peat/perlite route for rooting, and they did just fine. They each had a good root system when I moved them to bark, and they’ve started putting out new growth since. I’m sure the lacunosa’s leaves will get a bit bigger, but for now I’m enjoying both the little guys.
Not everyone’s into Hoyas, and we forgive you, but you gotta admit those leaves are so cool – the variegation of the one and the fuzziness of the other. Lovin’ it.
I’ll keep you posted.
