Freed from the confines of their polyester prison, the new Hoya pubicalyx cuttings were in need of a new home. They needed someplace where they could put down roots and get down to some serious growing.
I gently loosened most of the mix from around the roots and then rinsed each of the plants in water to get rid of as much soil as possible. Despite having been trapped in mesh, the roots looked pretty good, and now that they had room to spread out I had great expectations.
I’ve been growing my Hoya in bark for a while now, and they seem to really like it. I wanted these guys to climb, so they needed a trellis. I zip-tied three, four-foot bamboo poles to the inside of a six-inch net pot, and then tied the cross bars into place. I put a thin layer of moist long fiber sphagnum in the bottom of the pot and used orchid bark and a few little bits of sphag to fill. I settled each of the plants near one of the trellis poles.
I have visions of a tall lush column of splashy pubicalyx, in the sort of near future. Not too much to ask.
