I always try to get the name right. That way, if someone watches one of my videos and realizes that they must have that plant, they at least have the real, scientific name. But for this fellow I get conflicting answers. I’m not a botanist, nor an expert, and I’m not getting into it. You got both names – Hoya globulosa and/or Hoya villosa.
I ordered this, of course, because of the leaves. Trust me, they are just as beautiful in person. Friends who see it for the first time always say, “how shiny”. Then I tell them to feel the underside of the leaf. Oooooo. The way I describe it is “long velvet”. They are fuzzy and soft and surprising.
This guy put out a couple of new leaves after he arrived, thank you, and then started with the vine. Which just kept on going. So, I gave it a trellis which led to more growth and then a rush of leaves. I should probably chop and prop to reduce the long empty vine, but the last thing I need is more hoya cuttings. I can’t find homes for the ones I’ve got.
Now if someone from the front office could just send around a memo telling me what the “for real” scientific name for this plant is, that would be most helpful. Somehow, though, I don’t think I’m on that e-mail list.
I’ll keep you posted.
