An image of the blossoms on Hoya lacunosa 'Amarillo'

I thought the foliage was pushing it. It was all the rage, one of those hot hoyas. At first, I didn’t like it, and then I did, and then I was ambivalent, and then I ordered it. When it arrived, I was sure. I liked it.

I did wonder how I would know if something was wrong with Hoya lacunosa ‘Amarillo’ since the variegation did look concerning. But I grew to like the yellow and lime greens of the new growth.

It’s so easy going, it’s a hoya that has never given me any cause for concern. Well, just the one.

For me he’s a grow monster, a scary fast beast of a grower. Once he got his footing, so to speak, he just grew; more so than any other lacunosa I have. I’ve had to reposition him several times simply to get him more room. And it’s time to do that again.

On the plus side, he blooms the way he grows. There are lots of peduncles, and the scent in the Hoya Room has become almost overpowering. Almost. I happen to like the scent, but even I will admit, he’s pushing it. Especially when combined with the three other lacunosas blooming right now. We should all have this kind of problem.

I’ll keep you posted.
