My Hoya carnosa ‘Krinkle 8’ had put out quite a bit of new growth in the past several months, and so as part of general maintenance, he got some re-trellising and a shower. As I was spritzing the leaves, I remembered just how far we’d come.
He was a hoya I never had on my wish list. I only ordered him because a video said that Krinkle 8s were hardy, grew well, and bloomed early, and I needed some success with a hoya. I thought the name was stupid and the leaves weird, and I wasn’t sure why I was ordering this plant.
When he arrived, that all changed. I liked the leaves. He seemed sturdy. Once he settled into his new home, he was a steady grower and was one of my first hoyas to bloom. So yes, the hype was all true. After about a year I decided to move him to an inorganic medium and a self-watering pot, and he wasn’t even phased by the move. He paused for a couple of weeks and just got back to growing.
By spring, I am going to need to rework his trellis, and probably take some cuttings, but I doubt that he’ll even be bothered. He seems pretty unflappable, and that’s a good thing in a hoya.
I’ll keep you posted.
