Hoya cumingiana

Who doesn’t enjoy new hoya leaves? If you’re one of those people who doesn’t, just keep moving along, ‘cause you won’t find any sympathy here. New hoya leaves are the coolest things.

Maybe it’s because the temperatures in the plant room have leveled off on the warmer side. Maybe it’s the extra light from the new lights. For whatever reason a lot of my hoyas are sending out new leaves. Which is very, very cool.

Usually, they are miniature versions of the mature leaves into which they will grow, but sometimes their initial form gives no indication of what’s to come. Sometimes they show up in bronze or burgundy, sometimes green. Sometimes any variegation is there from the start, and sometimes it develops over time.

Whatever the reason and however they show up, I take them as a sign I’m doing something right and that my hoya is happy; and happy hoyas are what we hope for. Except for those who still don’t get it and think that all hoyas look alike, and we don’t pay them any mind.

I’ll keep you posted.
