I was never really sure about Hoya caudata until I got one; and as soon as I opened the packing, I was sure. I liked it. I know that, even among hoya heads, caudata and its ilk are not always well received. The leaves are too cardboard like, the vines are too woody, it looks too prehistoric, it’s not pretty. Yes.
Yes, to all that, which is, I think, why I like it. The leaves are like cardboard. The edges are undulated. It is pubescent all over. The splash is totally random. Vine tips will dry up for the slightest reason only to be replaced with new vines. Mine are healthy and growing for me, but that doesn’t mean I know much about growing caudata.
This guy came from Logee’s @logeesplants earlier this year and has settled in well. I recently upgraded some grow lights and moved him under them. And apparently, he likes a bit more light than he was getting. Good to know. He’s sending out a lot of handsome, soft, burgundy leaves and a lot of new vines.
I’m hoping with all this new growth that I’ll soon see some blooms. None of my caudata has bloomed yet in my care. But I grow hoyas, so I can be patient, sort of, sometimes.
I’ll keep you posted.
