Hoya obovata

When I discovered the wild and wonderful world that is the Hoya rabbit hole, the first hoya I really wanted was a Hoya obovata. I found one as part of a beginner hoya pack. This is not that plant.

That poor plant was, rather too quickly, promoted to compost. Total operator error. I was afraid of, and intimidated by, hoyas and had absolutely no idea what I was doing. Fear and ignorance made for a less than winning combination. When the plant passed on it was planted with the leaves’ upside-down, in cactus soil.

I had done what the internet told me, well not the upside-down part, and had learned the hard way that there is a whole great world of bad plant information on the net. I learned to think through what advice I found. I learned to say, “that makes no sense”; and to listen to my plants.

I still love Hoya obovata, those round leaves get me every time. And I’m glad I found another and that he’s doing pretty well and that I’m not the hapless hoya header I was at the start.

I’ll keep you posted.
