Hoya bevialata arrived as a “thank you” cutting with one of my first orders. I was surprised and appreciative but perplexed. I didn’t know sellers sometimes included free cuttings, and I had never heard of this hoya before.
But I’ll try and grow most anything. The cutting was rooted, so I popped it into a net pot with a bark/sphag mix and waited to see what would happen; and I did a very little bit of research about the hoya. He was a bit plain, and the pictures online didn’t look like much but, oh, ok.
He hung in there and grew a bit, but not much else. Until early this spring I noticed he was looking a bit wrinkled. He wanted more water. A self-watering pot seemed the answer, with pon-ish, since the hoyas at my house love pon in a self-watering pot. So, we did that.
And once settled in the leaves plumped back up and he started pushing out new vines and beautiful bronze-colored leaves. He’s starting to look lush and shiny. I don’t remember who the seller was that sent him along, but thanks.
