I always check the discount rack at my local blue big box store, ‘cause you never know. There were three raggedy leaves looking just good enough that I could recognize the plant. I checked the markdown chart, and yeah for ten dollars I can fix that.
When I picked up the Monstera adansonii, the woman working in the department told me she’d bought the other one and it bounced right back for her. I congratulated her and mentioned that if she gave it something to climb, it would.
I brought it home, gave it good chunky soil, and a moss pole to climb, a good drink, and dappled afternoon light. After four months of recuperative care, it seems a happy plant and will soon need an extension for the moss pole, which I have, so all good here.
I already had an adansonii in the collection when I rescued this one. But I really like the plant, and who doesn’t love a good ten-dollar rescue story. See, it’s not always about hoyas.
I’ll keep you posted.
