This is another of those hoyas that was never on my wish list. It was included as a “thank-you” cutting with an order from one of my favorite sellers. I hadn’t heard of it and didn’t know anything about it. But I’ll try and grow most any hoya; and the unknowns usually end up being favorites.
As so it is with Hoya erythrina. It took a bit to figure out just what he likes, but once we did, we’ve had lots of new vine growth and leaves. And I gotta say, I love those leaves. I know I say that about all my hoyas, but the raised veins and the dark green of the leaves, ooh baby, ooh baby.
He’s loving life in pon-ish and self-watering, most of my hoyas do now, hanging out on the grow shelves. And if he keeps growing as he has been, there’s probably a new pot and larger trellis in his future – which are the kind of plant challenges I like to have.
I haven’t seen flowers yet, and he didn’t come with a descriptor, so I’m not sure what to expect in that department. But I’ll be happy no matter what the blossoms look like.
I’ll keep you posted.
