This was one of my favorite hoyas before I even owned one; and I have owned more than one. The first one, a cutting, I bought too early; I was a clueless newbie. The second one, another cutting, I was slightly less clueless but the clues I did have were not enough. The third one, a cutting again, I truly think was done in by flat mites.
I did more research before I got my next Hoya sigillatis. I also resolved that the next one would be an established plant, there were too many victims in my wake. Doug Chamberlain of Vermont Hoyas wrote that once you find a place that sigillatis likes, don’t move it. Ever. Also don’t mess with it. At all.
So, when number four arrived in bark, I kept it in bark. When I found a distance from the grow light it seemed to like, I kept it there. When I learned that it wants a bit more water, I made sure it got water. And I don’t mess with it.
I think it’s beautiful. It’s exactly what I hoped it would be. No blooms yet, but I’m going to be patient with this guy. I’m just happy it’s growing and healthy.
I’ll keep you posted.
