This hoya was found along the Ulu Endau River in Malaysia, from which it gets its name – Hoya endauensis. It is considered endangered in its native habitat. At one time it was endangered in my habitat. This is not my first endauensis, but I am happy that it is only my second.
The first one did fine for a little bit, and then just died. Like overnight died, like so fast I couldn’t figure out what I did wrong, like I’m not going to do that again soon. I was happy when I learned that others had found it difficult. Not happy that they found it difficult, happy that I wasn’t alone in the difficulty.
But I do like Hoya endauensis. Something about the small, roundish leaves with their undulate edges just appeals to me. So, after learning more about hoyas in general, and this hoya in particular, I tried another. It’s been about eight months, and this is the result.
I seem to get along with hoyas well enough, but sometimes there is a species that proves, shall we say, challenging. I’d like to think I overcame this challenge.
I’ll keep you posted.
