I’d been through a bout of acquiring small-leafed hoyas and I wanted something different, which meant a large-leafed hoya. I looked around and saw pictures of Hoya latifolia ‘Sarawak’ and thought that it would satisfy that need.
So, when the little cutting with its three leaves arrived, I felt that the mission had been accomplished. Once it settled in, he decided to put out another leaf. When I noticed it, I had a “yay” moment. When it grew to double the old leaves, I had a “hmmm” moment. When the next leaf grew to double that one, I had an “uh-oh” moment. I guess you need to be careful what you wish for.
This Sarawak, like many hoyas, puts out pairs of leaves, just not at the same time or even in succession. The halves of the pairs appear somewhat randomly, as if it forgot it was supposed to do another leaf a few nodes back. At least that’s the case with my plant and the latest leaf. But I’m not complaining.
The leaves are bigger than I imagined, and it’s a latifolia, which means the potential for a plant monster exists. So, lesson learned; be careful what you wish for, for you will surely get it.
I’ll keep you posted.
