Hoya verticillata 'Black Margin'

I was happy with my choice from the moment I opened the box and first saw my new Hoya verticillata ‘Black Margin’ about a year ago. Shiny, dark green leaves with nice splash, contrasting light grey vines, what’s not to like? But I’m still looking for the black margins.

I have other hoyas with black margins that aren’t called ‘Black Margin’, so why is this, that doesn’t, called that? I know, it’s probably something about the light. It wants more and right now I don’t have more to give. The lights on my grow shelves are what they are. The next set of shelves are getting stronger lights, but that’s next.

He’s been doing fine in his net pot with bark and sphag, but I’m thinking about pon and self-watering. He doesn’t really need it, nor anything to get him growing, so maybe not yet. It is time to take some cuttings to propagate and sell though. Oh, and blooms would be nice. No pressure, just saying.

The current lack of margins isn’t a deal breaker, but they would make a handsome leaf look even better. Ah well, I can only do what I can do.

I’ll keep you posted.
