Several years ago, this Hoya carnosa ‘Krimson Queen’ was one of my very first hoya purchases. It was part of a three-plant set of “beginner” hoyas. I was a beginner. I wanted to try hoyas. It seemed like a good match.
I may have doubted that idea during the passing years, but perhaps it really was a good beginner hoya. Though I pushed it to the brink on several occasions, it survived my initial lack of knowledge, my experiments with potting mixes, and my fumblings with light and water.
At the end of June, I went away for a week’s vacation leaving behind a tiny peduncle and came home to a well developed umbrel which opened the next day. Surprise. I never expected it to bloom, I figured it would blast, but there they, and we, are. And I do love hoya blossoms.
I’ve got a few other carnosas, and now I have hope that maybe they’ll take the hint and get to work, too. There’s a princess that needs to produce, and Wilbur needs to get busy. Fingers crossed.
I’ll keep you posted.
