Dischidia ovata bloom

Of course, I know that plants bloom, one way or another, it just wasn’t on my radar for my Dischidia ovata. This is my second ovata. Sadly, the first one was the learning curve. This fellow, however, has now been around for more than two years.

It is the first time it has bloomed for me. Initially, I thought they were just weird looking leaflets, but then I realized what was going on, and it felt a bit like winning an award. Yes, the blooms are rather low-key, but that’s the Dischidia way. Besides the leaves make up for it.

He’s currently in bark/sphag and a net pot hanging out under the grow lights with his Hoya cousins. Learning that he’s related to Hoyas, and thus an epiphyte, was what I needed to know to have better luck with this one.

So, unlike the first one, this guy’s been chugging along pushing out new vines and leaves, gettin’ a bit of a tan, and making me glad I tried again. The unexpected blooms just top it all off.

I’ll keep you posted.
