Usually when you see yellow leaves on your hoya it’s cause for distress. I wasn’t sure if I liked the idea of hoya leaves that were supposed to have yellow in them. How would I know if I was doing something wrong?
But I really like lacunosa, so I summoned up my courage and ordered a Hoya lacunosa ‘Amarillo’. He was a little thing when he arrived last year, maybe just six or seven leaves. He came in a pon-ish mix, which was fine since that was my plan anyway, and I moved him to a self-watering pot on the grow shelves. It took a bit for him to settle into his new environment, and then he became a beast.
New growth everywhere; vines, tiny leaves, lots of yellow. Lacunosa usually does well for me, but I was still surprised by his unusually rapid growth. And glad I’d placed that order.
I’ve really grown to love the yellow variegation, he’s a real stand out. And I like the way in which the leaves start out with a lot of yellow and then transition to a darker and, shall we say, more mature but still unusual look.
I’ll keep you posted.
