I like small leaf hoyas. Okay, I like most hoyas. There’s only two that are on my “no way” list. What I’m currently looking for seems to fluctuate from the small leafed, to the unusual, to the large leafed, and back. I was in a small leaf phase when I ordered this one.
I had a variegated krohniana, so I thought Hoya krohniana ‘Black’ would be at the other end of the visual spectrum. And it is. I knew that it wouldn’t be truly black, but you know it’s darn close. I also knew there’s a whole krohniana vs lacunosa debate, but I was content knowing I wasn’t going to be the one to resolve it. The tag said krohniana.
Since he arrived in something like pon, the transfer to his new home was easy. He settled in on the grow shelves and hasn’t complained once since. He’s got new leaves and vines, which is cool ‘cause who doesn’t love new hoya leaves. They come in a bronze color before settling into their dark green and black tones.
My intent to get “opposites” worked out, and they are very opposite. This guy seems a bit somber and formal while his nephew is bright and bouncy. Which is just another reason to love small leaf hoyas.
I’ll keep you posted.
