In the hoya world, the conversations may start with flowers, but eventually they come down to leaves. As amazing as some of the blooms are, you are looking at leaves most of the time. So, it helps if the leaves have something truly unique going for them.
And so it is with Hoya rotundiflora. The leaves are almost rectangular and look like they’ve been hammered out of green metal. When you look really closely, they’re also hairy, which is not uncommon with hoyas, but it does add to the intrigue of rotundiflora.
Mine started out in a bark/sphag mix, but recently I converted him to pon-ish, and he seems happy. He’s got a couple of active tips and a mess of new leaves coming in, so I’m happy. He hangs out on one of my grow shelves about mid-range under the lights.
He hasn’t bloomed for me yet, but right now the new growth is doing it for me. I expect blooms in the future, but for now we’re. Blooms are part of the shape of things to come.
I’ll keep you posted.
