Sometimes after you get a plant home, and you live with it for a while, you can get a bit of buyer’s remorse. It looked more interesting online. It looked better in the store. It’s more demanding than I expected. But I’ve had none of that with Hoya kentiana (inner variegation).
I know about the whole kentiana v. wayetii debate. I’m no expert and I don’t have the knowledge to resolve it. He was introduced as kentiana so that’s what I’m going with.
He’s one of my rock solid hoyas; no trauma, no drama. And that foliage is stunning. He grows in my standard bark/sphag mix in a net pot under grow lights and gets a weekly watering. The closeness to the grow lights seems to affect both the whiteness and purple edges of the leaves, closer equals more. “Seems” because I haven’t scientifically tested it.
When people ask about a good starter hoya, with cool foliage, that’s relatively easy to find, I always suggest H kentiana. No blooms yet, but I don’t think he’ll let me down on that score either.
I’ll keep you posted.
