So, I’m watching one of Becca’s @BeccaDeLaPlants recent videos, and she mentioned that she’s intimidated by orchids and I thought “girl, they sell ‘em everywhere, if they can survive big boxes and gas stations, they can survive your house”. So, this is for her.
Go get yourself a Phalaenopsis. Don’t spend a lot of money, not on your first one. Don’t do the ice cube thing, no matter what the label says. They’re epihpytes, so no soil. And accept that for a lot of the year it’s just gonna be big green leaves. But the payoff is that for several months you get blooms like these.
I’ve got five phalaenopsis orchids in bloom right now and how cool is that. Completely worth the wait. They are so easy to take care of; and they will bloom again with almost no effort on your part. Nothing to be afraid of. Just don’t get one of the “blue” ones, they’ve been painted.
You’ve given us lots of plant advice, Becca, so now I’m sending you some: go get you an orchid. When you find out how easy they are, and it reblooms for you, you’re gonna wonder why you waited so long.
I’ll keep you posted.
