Drosera capensis

I don’t have much of a fungus gnat problem. But if you have plants, chances are you’ve got some of those annoying demon insects from hell. I have a tiny spider living in the plant room, and he’s done a commendable job of keeping them to an almost tolerable level. Tolerable.

A friend of mine started a small indoor bog garden, and she was having fun and success with her carnivorous plants. I wanted to try some myself. I decided two plants were a good starting point. I knew I wanted a Pinguicula, so I just had to pick another. I also needed to find a seller.

I did some looking around and discovered Curious Plant online. They answered my questions and shipped my order quickly. I ordered a Pinguicula agnata ‘True Blue’ and a Drosera capensis ‘Albino’. The plants that arrived were strikingly clean and in wonderful condition. And cool, very cool. I’m trying them in self-watering pots, fingers crossed, I’m new to this.

When I checked the next morning, each of them had snagged at least one fungus gnat – yay – and since then they’ve lured in a few more. I’m no expert about carnivorous plants, and this is all something of an experiment, but so far, it’s fun, in a rather dark and macabre sort of way.

I’ll keep you posted.
