I have the freedom and boldness that come from knowing that I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m not surprised if I make a mistake, in fact I expect to make mistakes, to do things wrong, to look like a rank novice. But I will attempt to do it boldly. I got that from Peter Chan @herons_bonsai.
I’ve been drawn to bonsai from the first time a saw an example. And after many years of “I wanna do that”, I decided to do that. I started watching Peter’s videos; what he did, his approach, his process. He frequently tells his audience to be bold about making bonsai and that made me bold. Bold enough to give it a try.
I’m no bonsai master, and don’t expect to ever be one. If there was a level below beginner, that’s where I’d be found. But I’d be there boldly trying to create something beautiful and not kill a plant in the process. I may be the only person who ever derives beauty and pleasure from my snippings and twistings, and I’m fine with that. You gotta start somewhere, and here’s where I am.
I know they’re not houseplants, and surprisingly not hoyas, but variety is good. So, I’ll boldly carry on trying to climb up from sub-beginner and enjoy myself in the process.
I’ll keep you posted.
