She started off in a mesh plug. I didn’t yet know to check for mesh, and she wasn’t happy. I moved her to bark, found the mesh and once it was gone, this Hoya australis ‘Lisa’ grew like crazy. She was growing so much and so fast that I gave her a big trellis.
I took some cuttings. They rooted quickly and very soon I was able to put them back in the pot with her. They too, were happy; a happy pot of happy hoya. That first summer was great. But last summer Lisa decided to slow her roll and just hang out a bit. I have experience with hoyas just sitting there doing nothing, so I went along.
At the end of summer, she came inside to her winter hangout, and did just that, just hung out. She lounged in the afternoon sun, soaking up some winter rays. The temps got warmer, the days got longer, and I had a “those leaves didn’t used to be there” moment. Lisa was growing again.
There’s still a lot of vertical room on her trellis, and maybe this summer we can do something about filling that up. I’ll try and do my part; but Lisa, that girl, does as she pleases. So, I’m taking an anticipation without expectation approach, and we’ll see how this summer goes.
I’ll keep you posted.
