Hoya sp aff burtoniae

Literally. I was at the big box ‘cause I needed a big pot. And it’s a rule that you can’t go to the plant section without taking a walk through the plant section. Just in case. As I’m taking a quick look through the hanging racks and shelves, my foot bumps against something.

At my feet is a plant, half out of its brown hanging pot. I shake my head and think “jeeze, nobody bothered to pick that up and oh that’s a burtoniae.” Hoya sp aff burtoniae more precisely. I slid him back into his pot, and when I lifted it to hang it up again, it was way too heavy. Which meant way over-watered. Rescue time.

The leaves on this one are more broad and don’t curl under quite as much as the one I already had. They look different enough that I don’t mind having both. I’m going to clean him up and let him dry out for a few more days and then get him out of the mud and into bark, just as I did with the first one. That coco peat mix is fine for rooting, but it doesn’t work well for me in the long term.

The first one started blooming last July and hasn’t stopped since, and I’ve lost count of the peduncles. So, once I get the new guy settled it, with a little luck, I’ll soon have two of them in bloom.

I’ll keep you posted.
