I haven’t always had the best of luck with those big, veiny leafed hoyas. I love ‘em, ‘cause who doesn’t. But really, couldn’t I just get one without baggage.
My first was a callistophylla which I think brought flat mites into the house. The second was a finlaysonii which had some kinda strange brownish fungaly spot on one of the two leaves. Neither one of them really grew, it was the mites, they just lived. So I was hesitant to go down that road again. But I’m a plant optimist, so I did.
Hoya sp kalimantan UT-158 showed up looking really good, and the leaves were beautiful. I got him settled in under the gentler lights, and in a few weeks he pushed out a new leaf, and then another. Yay. Then he started pushing out a new vine and I may have done a happy dance in the plant room. I think I even turned to the callistophylla and the finlaysonii and said “see, like this.” Since then they have each started to vine. What good is peer pressure if you don’t use it?
So I’m loving those big, veiny leafed hoyas again. ’Cause really, who doesn’t.
I’ll keep you posted.
