Hoya Rosita

She wasn’t on my wish list, but I was placing an order and she was available. Since I was paying for shipping anyway, why not? The pictures online looked pretty, and good things were said about her. Why not?

Hoya ‘Rosita’ is a hybrid, a cross of Hoya wayetii and Hoya tsangii; and other that the pictures, I had no expectations. She was kind of an experiment. So when the little plant arrived, I set her in bark and sphag, gave her a trellis and some care, and let her do her thing. We figured out the water, well I figured out the water, and once settled in she started to grow.

She’s not a splashy girl, but she seems to have gotten the best characteristics of her parents; coloring like wayetii and leaves like tsangii. The new leaves have been coming in with a beautiful bronze color before transitioning to green. I’ve heard she sun-stresses well, but I’m not a sun-stress kinda grower. She’s fine just like she is.

I just potted up some rooted cuttings to grow a plant that will trail, so I’ll have both. Climbing or trailing I think she’s always going to be “la bonita”.

I’ll keep you posted.
