So far, it’s been a very mild winter here in southern New England; almost no snow, no bone-crushing cold, and the nor’easters we’ve had have been rain. Which was bad enough. All of that means that quite often it’s been warm enough to order plants.
So I have, I did, whatever; and packages have been arriving. There’ve been some close calls and some forecasts that haven’t gone to plan, but so far, no casualties. In fact some of the arrivals from early December, like the meredithii, are starting to push out new growth and new leaves. Others, like the cumingiana, didn’t even take a pause in growing, they barely noticed the trip.
Some still show signs of sulfur, all new hoya arrivals get sulfured. I don’t know who they’ve been playing with and I don’t want to treat the entire collection, again. A couple of them are second tries; having learned, hopefully, which one doesn’t like much water, and which wants more water, and who would prefer self-watering, etc.
It seems that, for this part of New England at least, the mildness is supposed to continue; which is fine, though I would like to use the snow thrower just once. It also means the packages will continue to arrive.
I’ll keep you posted.
