With any new plant comes the hope that it will grow under your care, and most do not disappoint. Some, however, go that extra mile, and it can seem like a mile, in the growth department. Such is the case with this guy.
Hoya verticillata ‘Black Margin’ wasn’t on my radar, much less my wish list, when I first saw it. But it looked interesting, the leaves reminding me of lacunosa, and with a good price and the possibility of black edging, I gave it a go. What arrived was a really lush, healthy little plant, and I was happy with my purchase. I got him out of the medium he was in and into my standard hoya mix under the grow lights. And we waited.
But it wasn’t a very long wait until he started growing. He had shown up with some new growth, and I was pleased that it didn’t die back, but when the old new growth was joined with new new growth there was joy in Hoya Town. Even through the sulfur treatment there were new vines and new leaves happening.
So I’m thinking it’s time to take some cuttings, do a little propagation, and keep this puppy under a bit of control. Space is limited, and much as he might wish it, he can’t have it all. A plant growing too well is the problem we all want.
I’ll keep you posted.
