hoya heuschkeliana variegated

It was this little guy that got me wondering about flat mites. I’d had him since April of this year, and while he looked healthy enough, there wasn’t any new growth up top. I could see new roots through the net pot, so I knew this Hoya heuschkeliana was settled in, but why wasn’t he growing? Could it be what everyone was talking about?

So the sulfur treatment started with him. He was the first, ground zero, and you can still see a bit of residue on the leaves. I’m not worried about that, a couple more spritzes and he’ll look good as new. Better than new, in fact, because he’s now growing. A couple of weeks into it and he started pushing out new leaves.

I wouldn’t call him a robust grower, more of a steady grower. But after five months of nothing, if he’s growing, he can grow at any rate he wants to. Variegated hoya can sometimes be a bit slower than their greener brethren, and this guy doesn’t have much green to make food, so I’ll cut him some slack.

It was all about those leaves from the beginning, so as long as he’s making them, we’re all good here. At last.

I’ll keep you posted.
