hoya lacunosa

OK, smell might be the wrong word. Scent, maybe, perhaps fragrance? Some combination of hyacinth and a flower shop. But once you have smelled it, you recognize it immediately. I noticed the plant had buds, but once I got near the shelf where it lives, I knew the buds on this Hoya lacunosa had opened.

I think those lacy, frilly blooms are beautiful, and they are some of my favorite Hoya blossoms. There are blooms more striking or dramatic, but these are at the top of my list. Maybe it’s because a lacunosa, though not this one, was one of the first Hoyas to bloom for me. I don’t know; I’m not analyzing it, just enjoying it.

I’ve started collecting varieties of lacunosa, as well. So far six or seven of them, and I’ve only scratched the surface. If some folks think all hoyas look alike, they’re really not gonna get the whole lacunosa thing. But I don’t pay them any mind. I know better.

There’s another peduncle on this little guy, so I’ve got a couple of weeks of blooms to look and smell forward to. Smell forward, that doesn’t sound right? But you know what I mean.

I’ll keep you posted.
