It wasn’t love, and it wasn’t desire, maybe the word was “covet”. When I first saw it for sale online, I coveted the plant. It elicited feelings of “I need to get me one of them”.
But I have learned, sort of, to do a bit of research before I buy a plant and to ask “can I provide what that plant needs”? If it needs humidity of 90% and daily watering, well that’s not going to happen. No sense coveting if I’m just going to kill it. But I learned I could provide what Hoya sulawesiana needed, so I went to order it.
Alas, the reasonably priced cutting I had seen was gone. There were others to be found, but “reasonably priced” is a big part of the purchase equation. So I waited and watched, and waited and watched. And found again. Yay.
So he’s here, settling in. The leaves on this rooted cutting are about 5” (12cm) long. And I pause to stare for a bit every time I walk by. I’m not sure what I’m going to do when he starts growing, but that’s the kind of dilemma I want to have. So the “covet” problem is resolved. For now.
I’ll keep you posted.
