The adage may be “strike while the iron is hot”, for me it’s turned into “buy it when it’s there”.
I’d wanted a Scindapsus treubii ‘Moonlight’ for some time, they just weren’t available. But a little over a year ago I found one in a big box. He had a bit of damage, but he was there, and he’d grow, and he was going to be mine. When I repotted I divided him into two; one to trail and one to climb. The trailer started to trail beautifully, but the climber seemed afraid of heights. No vine-like growth from him at all.
But about a month ago, he started sending out a vine; no leaves, just a vine. Like the rest of us, I think he just wanted a bit of support. I gave him a pole and I’m going to see what he decides to do. Leaves are heavy, and sometimes a plant won’t leaf until a vine has something to grab onto; something to support the weight. At least that’s my theory, I’ve heard very little from the plant. But I’m optimistic and I’ll see.
He’s been a bit of a slow grower, so I’m not expecting overnight leafy splendor. He has been a steady grower though, so I’m hoping for a sign he likes the pole. Fingers crossed.
I’ll keep you posted.
