Everybody loves plant mail, but it has changed. I’m old enough to remember filling out a written order form, mailing it and a paper check to the seller, and then waiting for your shipment to arrive. It could take weeks. No pictures of the plants. No e-mail confirmation. No to-your-door shipment tracking.
This haul from Plants Wake You Up arrived two days after I placed the order. I’d decided to try some slightly more finicky hoyas (the hellwigiana and the nabawanensis), and I wanted a Hoya that was going to give me big leaves (the latifolia). The Kaimuki was a bonus from PWYU. It’s a cross of macgillivrayi and archboldiana, which can also get big leaves and huge blossoms, so I’m excited.
Most of them were very slightly rooted, which is fine with me, and after a few days to recuperate they got settled into their new homes. The nabawanensis was just showing signs of roots beginning, to he’s in pon until he gets a bit better footing.
Colder weather is arriving here in southern New England, and like the Starks, we know winter is coming. That means there will be less plant mail because it will get wicked cold, but I’m trying to sneak in a few last shipments before it all begins.
I’ll keep you posted.
