Update. I first saw Hoya carnosa ‘Chelsea’ in someone’s video online. I thought it was ugly; didn’t like it, didn’t want it, never on a wish list. Then I saw a big pot of it in a big box and it was all over. I didn’t even think twice.
She was shopworn and a little beat up, but it didn’t matter. Got her home, washed her up, and made a video about her. But she was planted in coco peat, and while it can be good for rooting plants, it’s not good for Hoya long term. So after the video was uploaded she got moved to bark and sphag; most to one large pot and a few rooted cuttings to a small net pot for a friend.
She wasn’t happy about that, not at all, and it seemed touch and go for a long while. But after some months I noticed that the leaves felt firmer and she looked a bit perkier. She was going to be fine. She’s been out on the porch since May and just loving life. There are new vines and new leaves everywhere.
It’s happened a couple of times; that I didn’t want a plant and then saw it in person and my mind changed instantly. I’m sure glad it happened with Chelsea because after a few months of worry she’s given me a lot of joy.
I’ll keep you posted.
