rhaphidophora tetrasperma

I wanted one, and then I didn’t. Sometimes they looked leggy, and I’d heard they are aggressive growers. Did I need that? I resolved that if I found a Rhaphidophora tetrasperma are a good price I would give it a shot.

I was walking out of the plant department, bags of perlite and coco peat in hand, when out of the corner of my eye I recognized a leaf shape; and there he was. At one point he had been a large, healthy, and expensive plant. Now he had been consigned to the bottom shelf of the half-off rack. Half-off met my price point.

One of the thick vines was broken, hanging on by a few fibers. But there were new growth points all over the vines, even the broken one. And there were aerial roots, many of them. I can fix this.

I was leaving on a vacation in three days. I repotted him in good mix, and put the broken vine to root in perlite and coco peat. I gave them a good drink, and trusted in my plant sitter to water them. I came back to new growth, lots of new growth. He’s still scarred and not much to look at, but he’s gonna be handsome soon.

I’ll keep you posted.
