ceropegia linearis woodii

An unlooked for lucky find; that’s what it was. I was at a local nursery earlier this week, looking for something else. And as one does, I took a turn through the greenhouse; because you never know. There they were, a half tray of Ceropegia linearis woodii (variegated) – Variegated String of Hearts.

They were plugs, overwatered, and under ten dollars. I would be doing a good thing if I brought one home, saving it from drowning and building up those karma points. It would be a kindness really; and I try to be a kind person whenever it’s convenient. Plus I didn’t have the variegated variety.

He’s now freed from mesh and potted in bark and sphag, in a spot where he gets a bit of late afternoon sun. I’m finding that I really enjoy epiphytes, and I’m collecting more of them. When I finally stopped trying to grow them in soil mixes, they responded positively, and now they’re some of the easiest plants in my collection.

Unexpected? Yes. Lucky? Quite. Serendipity? Absolutely.

I’ll keep you posted.
