I bought my first two Tillandsia a few weeks ago. They were small, and seemed inexpensive. They weren’t like anything else I had in my collection. Tillandsia are also like peanuts and potato chips, after the first couple you want more.
I knew there were a lot of species, so I looked around online for a grower/seller that offered a good selection. I didn’t know much about Tillandsia, and wasn’t really sure where to start. After checking several sites and some sellers on Etsy, I found a grower’s choice assortment. You chose how many plants you want and they send an assortment of their choosing. The prices seemed fair, and for this offer the shipping was included. I decided on the five plant assortment. I liked the grower’s name, Twisted Acres.
I placed my order on Sunday. It was shipped on Monday and arrived via standard USPS on Thursday. That’s pretty darn good. The Tillandsia I had seen in stores were puny, sad looking things, so my expectations weren’t high. What I got from Twisted Acres far exceeded those expectations. The plants were interesting. They were in good condition, and they were much larger than I had expected. I was really happy. Tillandsia are good travelers, so they don’t need a lot of fancy packaging. A corrugated cardboard box and newspaper worked perfectly and they’re both recycleable.
I was so happy with my order that a week later I went back and ordered species I hadn’t received in the first group. Again, the order was placed on Sunday and shipped on Monday. It arrived on Wednesday. I told a plant friend about my first experience with Twisted Acres. She placed an order on the same Sunday, and got her plants on Thursday. She said her plants were good, healthy, and larger than she had expected.
Overall, I’ve had two very good experiences, and my friend had one as well. I ordered as an individual, not as the website, so I’d take our combined good experiences as typical for Twisted Acres.
There are a few more species I want to get, and I’ll be getting them from Twisted Acres.
